How do you Exercise?

Physical activity and exercise is important for our body’s physical and mental health. It helps to maintain a good circulation, strengthen our muscles, balance our hormones and simply feel good in our own body. Going to a gym can support a commitment to a place and a routine, especially when the weather does not encourage outdoor activities. However the benefits from physical activity outside are endless… Nonetheless, the way in which we move our body is very individual and we all must discover what works for us. Here are some things you might want to take into consideration:

Oxygen
We humans rely greatly on oxygen for our physical function and can in fact only survive 3-4 minutes without air. When exercising outdoors, breathing patterns not only increase but we are also capable of taking in more oxygen and send it deeply into our cells. Oxygen is a source of life that promotes the cleansing of our entire system. When we are out with nature, we are able to absorb its energy that actually has the ability to burn excess toxins in the body.

Tips: Spend more time moving outside. Enjoy a walk or change of scenery to reenergize the body & mind after long hours behind your desk. Go for a brisk walk in the morning to wake up the mind and the senses. Focus on your breathing and try to absorb as much oxygen as possible.

Routine
Trying to force ourselves into a routine can become challenging. High intensity workouts and strict diets can make it difficult for the body to keep up. That is why many may hit a plateau and wonder why they are not reaching their goals. It is so important that we assess our routine and consider introducing new exercises or activities. Our body and mind need constant change in order to develop, break through boundaries and achieve better productivity.

Tips: Consider doing a different exercise routine on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis. Often it helps to let go of a forced program and develop a lifestyle with activities that you enjoy.

Seasons
Seasonal changes can effect our mood and our desire to step out or stay indoors. The summer heat in Dubai will most likely push us to stay away from doing any heavy exercise under the sun. However as we move closer to the cooler months, Dubai offers the perfect setting for outdoor activities. Whether it’s taking a walk on the beach, water sports or simply enjoying a day at the pool.

Tips: Adjust the space you choose to exercise in to the time of the year and the place you live. Consider reducing the time at the gym when the weather permits it and instead take your movement outdoors! A great bonus to living in Dubai when the weather gets better is to enjoy a swim in the sea at sunset to relax and unwind the body after a long day.

Individuality
When it comes to exercise the most important aspect to consider is that we are all different. The way we eat, our age, our health status, our general lifestyle habits etc. are all going to have an influence on how we perform. That is why not all exercise routines work for everyone. You may have heard this before, but it is key to understand and find out what works for us.

Tips: Listen to your body. If you feel like you need to rest, then take a day off. If you feel like you want to go boxing, swimming, play a game of tennis, take a run or do some yoga, then do that. At the end of the day you need to ENJOY what you do. Movement can be medicine if you respect your body, give it what it needs and have fun.
